An Event for Everyone

The Bury St Edmunds Junior Chess Congress is a six round Swiss with four sections organised by age and grade.

Six Round Swiss

The Swiss pairing system means that entrants should expect to play in all six rounds. It is NOT a knockout event.

You may request a half-point bye for round 1 if arriving before 09:30 is difficult.

u18, u11 and u9 Sections

These three sections are limited by age, but have no grading limit.

Ages are as at 1 September 2018, so if your 11th birthday was on 24 September 2018, you can still enter the u11 section.

Minor Section

This section is for players under age 11 who in addition either do not have an ECF grade or whose grade is under 50.

As with the other sections, it's your age at 1 September 2018 which is relevant.

Come and join us at our great new venue!  It's at a new school, with plenty of space for playing chess.  There's also a large area for parents and/or analysis of games between rounds.  You can bring your own packed lunch, but there will be a refreshments stall run by parents of members of the Bury Knights Junior Chess Club.
